Albufeira Revisited…2008
I wrote some stuff here in 2006, when I got to know (for the first time) Albufeira in Portugal, although I have been visiting the Algarve for many years. My friend John came over (from Scotland) for a week in August 2008 and he (again) invited me down to spend a few days with him. And I am soooooooo glad to tell you that nothing has changed…
Not forgetting that only last year the whole Maddie thing was going on in Portugal and I suppose that people are aware that they have to look after their kids while on holiday, even in Portugal. I saw many examples of this, with kids in the bar till late (very later in some cases)…
I had visited Albufeira since 2006, mostly with John (I am sure people there thing we are “the elderly gay couple”)…but it was really nice that we were recognized and welcomed in many of the places we went to…
The Rock Café is still the best though…great atmosphere, great band. Last Saturday night (23rd August) it was really wild.
Sir Harry’s is going through an identity crisis. Their resident acoustic guitar entertainer, Brian Christopher, left after like 18 years, so I was surprised at seeing the place so empty. (I would suggest a rebranding to them, cause the place still has so much potential).
Anyway, was great to be there, even through it was only for two days. And great that John and I just “caught up”, as we haven’t really had one of our Splash Weekends for ages. So, thanks Johnny Boy…

hi folks, i am the johnny boy who managed to get caught up with mad ken so many years ago that it seems a lifetime!! being Scottish, i enjoy a dram or 2 and i would admit 2 being a bad influence on the big man but those fortunate enough to experience deep friendship will know that even though you don’t see each other often, when you do, you slip into the groove. That’s ken and me!! By the way, stick with the Sir Harry, the barmaids are lovely!!!
Now it’s vamosh!!
