Who’s Who…

This is good… Barack Obama Inauguration

President Barack Obama…

My South African friend Hendry just text me and said about the inauguration speech “…It makes us believe in God again…Inspiring and healing. Indeed a thing of BEAUTY…”

There are moments in our lives that we just know something has changes and this is without question one of those moments. I believe that it is up to each and every one of us to play our individual part.

Congratulations President Barack Obama…

London still in the era of Single Glazed Window…

Having spent the last days in London (sooooo nice) and being constantly reminded that energy efficiency is the single most important step to reducing energy consumption, I was surprised (amazed would be a better word) that so many of the buildings in London still have single glazed windows.

I stayed in the Hyde Park area (so very central…and where residents are not exactly short of a few bob) and 99.9% of the buildings still do not have double glazed windows.

The effects of bad windows is not only energy…it’s also comfort…if you sit next to a single glazed window and feel the down-draught, you will know what I mean…it’s really very uncomfortable. So central heating permanently on and you never seem to feel warm.

Statistically, 35% of your energy is lost through badly insulated windows and the quickest energy payback of any refurbishment will be upgrading windows. And as England is blessed with long winters, this is surely a big problem.

No, I am not trying to sound like a window salesman here, but I would like to understand why this is. Why are window manufacturers not working 24/7 to supply London with the best double glazed windows and save millions in energy…not to mention CO2…there must be an explanation.

How unfair can this get - what people are saying…

KEN LIVINGSTONE
Former London Mayor Ken Livingstone issued a statement backing the demonstration.

“Every day, we see appalling pictures of children slaughtered by Israeli bombs, missiles and other sophisticated weapons. Yet with more than 700 dead and thousands more seriously wounded, the international community is allowing Israel to continue its completely disproportionate onslaught accompanied by an Orwellian litany of lies.”

LAUREN BOOTH
The sister-in-law of former Prime Minister Tony Blair, spoke at the London rally, The Times newspaper reported. During her speech, Booth criticized Blair over his attempts to bring about a resolution to the conflict.

“Tony Blair’s only comment regarding the cease-fire has been to say that it can only take place after the tunnels in Gaza are destroyed,” The Times quoted her as saying. What he is suggesting means that after the massacre, people will have no access to food, kerosene and medicines that came through those tunnels. That is not a cease-fire; that is a slow agonizing death.”

UK Jews demand Israeli ceasefire

A number of prominent British Jews have written an open letter calling on the Israeli government to halt its military operations in Gaza immediately. The letter, published in the Observer, warns the military action, far from improving security, will strengthen extremism and destabilise the region. The signatories, who declare themselves “passionate supporters of Israel”, include several rabbis.
