Congratulations Kaleigh…

My daughter received the “bit of paper” today that tells her she is now a BSc (Hons) First Class in Architectural Engineering.

Ain’t she just the best…

Congratulations Kaleigh…you sooooooo deserve it… 8-)

To Bobby Robson…

It was sad to hear the news that Bobby Robson died today…

Sir Bobby Robson and his wife Elsie

I had the privilege to meet him and his wife when he was the manager of Sporting (Lisbon). He was quite an amazing man actually, and one that seemed to remember detail in times where he must have been under a lot of pressure….I mean…who else would call and invite you to the Sporting home games and arrange to meet you at the gate of the stadium to give you complimentary tickets, just before the game started.

I always remember him saying (as we laid in the sun around the pool): “Ya know what Ken…in England we always say, bloody rain again…and in Portugal it’s…bloody sun again….”

I think of you and your family today Bobby…

Looking Back…

I saw on TV this weekend the events surrounding the boxing match between the then Cassius Clay and Sonny Liston in 1964.

He was given absolutely no chance…Liston was the monster of the ring and Clay the self proclaimed “special one”…at just 22 years old…he of course won in what can only be described as the most majestic performance by any athlete…it’s was like nothing we had ever seen before. The world changed that night….he was really soooooo beautiful.

What was great to listen to however, was the perspective that he, by then Muhammad Ali, became a leading Anti Vietnam war, and the stance he took.

One (white) commentator said that if Muhammed was anything else than black, we would have been an All American Hero…

It was a pleasure to see you again Muhammad…

Serendipity and SHIFT ‘08…

On the 17th October 2008, I made a presentation at the SHIFT ‘08 Conference, which is an amazing conference on all things web here in Lisbon. I was invited by André Ribeirinho of Adegga.com. What was interesting was that we were both somewhat skeptical on my presentation as it related to sustainable buildings, not anything “web nor tec”. However, it was a good presentation and the audience seemed to have appreciated the content. (more…)
